On Sunday July 26, 2026, diamat and port-royal will give an in depth dance-techno/shoegaze/ambient concert, for the summer edition pre-festival event of Chania Music Festival 4.
port-royal is an Italian post-rock/electronica band known for their fusion of ambient techno, shoegaze, and melodic IDM. Formed in the early 2000s, the band emerged with their debut Kraken EP (2002) and went on to establish a consistent international presence across the following decade. Their work is characterized by atmospheric electronics, guitar-driven textures, and shifting rhythmic structures, moving between introspective ambient passages and more driving, dance-oriented forms.
Over 16 years of activity, port-royal released 13 records (8 albums and 5 EPs), alongside numerous compilation appearances and remixes. Their discography includes Flares (2005), Afraid to Dance (2007), and Dying in Time (2009), the latter marking a shift toward more structured songwriting and a broader integration of electronic production and vocal elements. In 2015, they returned with Where Are You Now, expanding their sonic palette further, followed by the remix collection You Ware Nowhere (2016). Their earlier work Flares was reissued in a remastered edition for its 15th anniversary in 2020.
The band has toured extensively throughout Europe, the former Soviet Union, the former Yugoslavia, and the United States, building a reputation for live performances that balance rhythmic intensity with immersive, cinematic textures.
For this festival, port-royal present a reunion performance, revisiting selected works from their catalogue in a live context.

diamat was formed by Attilio Bruzzone (co-founder and composer of port-royal) and Andrea Zangrandi during port-royal’s tour of Russia in the fall 2011. On one of those intense Siberian nights, the duo decided to work together while on tour to produce some early demos. In December 2011 they were joined by Attilio’s long-time close friend Christos Garmpidakis (dergar), who completed the line up. After more than a year of on and off work on 8 selected tracks among the huge amount of material already produced, the band delivered to the n5MD imprint their first album called Being Is the Sum of Appearing. Released in the summer of 2013, the debut album was followed the next year by the remix album Being…Remixed (again released by n5MD). Diamat crafts a deep and lush melancholic electronic music with nods to ambient-techno.
