On Friday, August 12th at 10 pm, in the Grand Arsenal Hall, Christina Vantzou (piano and laptop) will give a concert together with John Also Bennet (flute and laptop).
Christina Vantzou is a composer and artist who deals with time expansion, atmospheres and harmonies through electronics and acoustic instruments. She pays close attention to psychoacoustics, affects, and the invisible sensations generated by sound. In her latest work, she shapes ceremonial and affective spaces activated by field recordings, piano, voice and fragments of the ensemble. Vantzou has presented work in spaces such as Villa Medici (Rome), Philharmonie de Paris, Barbican Center (London), BOZAR (Bruxelles), Kölner Philharmonie (Cologne), Villa Lontana (Rome), Cafe Oto (London), and the Observatory of Athens.
American composer, flautist and multi-instrumentalist based in Athens, John Also Bennett has been shaping a body of work marked by serenity and contemplation, unfolding in a time without urgency - apparently still, yet always in motion. He is a regular collaborator of Christina Vantzou and has releases on labels such as Shelter Press, Kranky, and Seance Centre. Moving between minimalism, ambient, and transcendence, John Also Bennett weaves immersive tapestries from sparse but essential means like floating pads, hypnotic flute lines, field recordings and aqueous electronic textures.
